The Learning through Play e-course combines multiple components to deepen the understanding of users.

The PlayMatters Learning through Play (LtP) e-course was recently developed and rolled out in Tanzania in January 2026, through a strong collaboration between PlayMatters, the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), and the Agency for the Development of Educational Management (ADEM). Hosted on the TIE Learning Management System (LMS), it is designed to strengthen teachers’ practical understanding and application of LtP in classrooms across the country.

The development of the e-course took a little more than six months from its inception to completion. It comprises two comprehensive modules for teachers and teacher leaders, including head teachers and school-level instructional leaders, to strengthen school-based support for playful learning practices. The process brought together curriculum experts, teacher educators, ICT specialists, and school-level practitioners to shape and refine the course content.

About the PlayMatters LtP e-course.

The result is an accessible, interactive e-learning experience that equips educators to integrate playful, learner-centered approaches into everyday teaching. This collaboration emphasizes a shared commitment to enhancing learning outcomes and ensuring that teachers have access to relevant, user-friendly tools that align with Tanzania’s education system. The launch marks a significant milestone in strengthening the integration of learning through play in Education systems.

‘’The e-course aligns with the 2023 Tanzania improved curriculum, which emphasizes on interactive methods in teaching and learning,’’ said Dr. Aneth Komba, Director General of TIE.

‘’This marks a milestone for the PlayMatters effort to strengthen and institutionalize LtP, to strengthen systems, and complement their efforts towards children’s holistic development,’’ added Martin Omukuba, PlayMatters Project Director.
