Oct 07, 2026
Isingiro District officially launched PlayMatters 3.0 on Wednesday 23rd September 2026, a new phase focused on embedding Learning through Play (LtP) more deeply into the district's education system. The launch organised by War Child Alliance & TUMAINI for Refugee Women brought together district leaders, including the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Resident District Commissioner (RDC), District Education Officer (DEO) and representatives of the Local Council V (LCV) Chairperson, alongside education officers, inspectors of schools, head teachers, Bishop Stuart Core Primary Teachers' College (PTC), Coordinating Centre Tutors (CCTs), Refugee Welfare Council III (RWC III) leaders from Oruchinga and Nakivale, and War Child Alliance (WCA) staff.
TUMAINI, the national implementing partner for PlayMatters 3.0 in Isingiro, being introduced to Isingiro District Local Government stakeholders during the project launch on 23 September 2026.
A highlight of the event was the formal introduction of TUMAINI for Refugee Women as the National Partner that will lead PlayMatters 3.0 implementation in Isingiro. Working with the district and schools, and with technical support from the PlayMatters consortium, TUMAINI's leadership marks a deliberate shift towards local ownership and long-term sustainability.
Building on more than four years of implementation and learning, PlayMatters 3.0 aims to take Learning through Play (LtP) beyond individual classrooms and into everyday education structures. The new phase will integrate LtP into teacher training and school-based Continuous Professional Development (CPD), while placing stronger emphasis on disability inclusion, gender, psychosocial well-being and continuity of learning during crises. Multimedia-enabled Communities of Practice (CoPs) and evidence generation will support ongoing teacher learning and help identify approaches that can be scaled.
More than the start of a new project phase, the launch signaled a renewed commitment by Isingiro District and its partners to ensure every child experiences learning that is engaging, inclusive, resilient and responsive to their needs.
